Dreampilots (DP) started off in 2004 through a project called Salvation
Street. This four piece Norwegian band consist of Oddi Nessa (vocals,
guitar) Gulleiv Wee (Bass, guitar) Inge Engelsvold (Keys) and Karl Oluf
Wennerberg (Drums). Their debut album "If you ever come down" was
released in the fall of 2005. The rock attitude and experimental flavor
makes this band into an unique one of its kind.
The band-members of DP are all involved in different music projects
throughout Norway and are very active in the Norwegian music scene.
"Which", explains Karl the drummer of the band, "makes it harder to
write songs together because we tend to tear each others ideas apart."
You can hear this perfection and drive to write good songs and to make
good melodies on their album "If you ever come down". Karl adds
"Writing songs is like cooking. You go to a grocery store, buy a couple
of ingredients, go home try to prepare starters, a main course and
desert and hopefully it turns out nice"
All four members have different characters and personalities and that
makes the band an unique fellowship. Without all the differences in
personalities Dreampilots isn't the same. Answering the question “how
can Dream Pilots be described?” frontman Oddi Nessa answers: "On a good
day you can compare Dream Pilots with U2......or is it on a bad day?
haha!"
The musical influences of the band are diverse. The band is inspired by
artists like the Rolling Stones, U2, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Bob
Dylan, Ryan Adam and Johnny Cash. Combine all those bands together and
you'll get Dreampilots. They are aiming to have a different sound and
trying to be more experimental. DP is always looking for good melodies,
lyrics, riffs, searching for debt in their music and doesn't compromise.
Oddi: "Music is a fantastic communication tool. Poetry and writing
lyrics is telling a story in a different way. We are all humans,
struggling with life. We are all going through different stages of life
and experiencing all kinds of emotions ." The band finds their
inspiration for song writing in their relationship with God and with
other people. DP hopes that God will use their music and talents to
connect with people. Honesty and integrity is most important to the
band.
DP's goals are clear. They want the best for the band, playing shows,
maybe going international and in the future recording a new album. But
the main goal of the band is to keep the feet on the ground and the
heads up. Trusting God in everything they do. Oddi: "He will lead us
wherever He will lead us. In the past we made mistakes, we didn't
always make the best decisions and thought we listened to God but
didn't. In the end it all made us to what we are now, as a person but
definitely as a band." The song 'Broken Man' on their album says it all:
"Forgive me Lord for the times I didn't see you, I was too busy staring
at myself. Forgive me Lord, for the times I didn't hear you, I was too
busy talking to myself. Here I stand, I'm a broken man. Forgive me Lord
for the times I didn't love You. I was too busy pleasing myself.
Forgive me Lord, for the times I didn't follow you, I was too busy
leading myself. Here I stand I'm a broken man. "
